The City of Bielefeld plans the comprehensive redevelopment of Herforder Straße along its entire length between Zimmerstraße and the city boundary. The project is the Bielefeld section of the future Radschnellweg OWL 2.0 segment between Bielefeld and Herford. The Radschnellweg OWL 2.0 is intended to provide a continuous, high-performance cycle route from Rheda-Wiedenbrück via Gütersloh and Bielefeld to Herford, and connect to the RS 3 towards Minden. Herforder Straße is classified as a route of the highest network category in the municipal, regional and regional metropolis cycle traffic concepts and represents a central development route for cycle traffic. The project is of particular importance for both cycle traffic and motor vehicle traffic. Outbound from the city, the route partially serves the function of federal road B 61 and connects the central city of Bielefeld with the medium-sized city of Herford. At the same time, due to the future connection of the L 712n to the A 2, increasing traffic volumes are to be expected, so that accompanying traffic model-based investigations and coordination with external specialist planning are necessary. The implementation of the overall project will be carried out in sections. The framework conditions along Herforder Straße differ significantly and shape the foci of communication and participation.
