Description

Konrad-Adenauer-Straße 28/30, 70173 Stuttgart, New State Gallery - Comprehensive Energy Renovation, Engineering Services under Section 4, Subsection 2, HOAI, The State Gallery Stuttgart is one of the most important art museums in Germany with a collection from the Middle Ages to the present day. The museum site consists of several buildings: the Old State Gallery, the New State Gallery Stuttgart (opened in 1984, designed by James Stirling), and the Steibbau. After more than 40 years of intensive use, the New State Gallery has a considerable need for renovation. In particular, the building's technical equipment is outdated, prone to faults, and energy-intensive. The aim of the planned comprehensive energy renovation is to modernise the technology, building envelope, and air conditioning, reduce energy consumption, and make the museum operation future-proof. The planning is carried out in two construction phases: 1st Phase: Renovation of the administration building (offices, library, storage room) including technical infrastructure and cooling systems as well as optimisation of space utilisation. 2nd Phase: Renovation of the museum building with foyer, exhibition rooms, depots, and technical centre. In particular, the air conditioning, glass roofs, building envelope, and the entire technical infrastructure will be renewed. During the construction period, adjacent areas such as the Old State Gallery, the Steibbau, and the Chamber Theatre must continue to operate; the artworks of the New State Gallery will be temporarily relocated. A completed feasibility study estimates a renovation period of approximately eight years. The aim is a holistic concept that combines energy efficiency, monument preservation, accessibility, and a modern museum operation.
