Description

The City of Schwedt/Oder plans, as part of the transformation process of the refinery region, the new construction of a modular real laboratory for bioeconomy and circular economy in Schwedt/Oder. The real laboratory is to serve as an application-oriented research, development and transfer infrastructure, particularly for:

- Start-ups,

- Companies,

- Universities,

- Research institutions,

- as well as technology-oriented project consortia.

The real laboratory is part of the planned Innovation Campus Schwedt and complements the further areas of action, in particular with application-oriented research, development and piloting areas in the field of bioeconomy and circular economy. The facility is to contribute:

- to the transformation of the industrial location,

- to the promotion of innovation and start-ups,

- to knowledge and technology transfer,

- as well as to the development of new regional value chains.

The aim is to create a flexibly usable infrastructure for the development, testing and piloting of bioeconomic, circular and sustainable industrial applications. The real laboratory is to address, in particular, the following fields:

- Bioeconomy,

- Circular economy,

- Recycling,

- Sustainable material development,

- Green chemistry,

- Waste utilisation,

- as well as energy and resource efficiency.

The facility is to be designed as a technology-open real laboratory with high adaptability to changing user and project requirements. A new building with a usable area of approximately 3,000 m² is planned. The building is to:

- enable flexible and modular use,

- be able to accommodate different user groups in parallel,

- support research and piloting processes,

- be technically adaptable,

- as well as be operable in a sustainable manner.

Particular emphasis is placed on:

- variable floor plans,

- low conversion costs,

- shared infrastructure,

- as well as expandability and retrofittability.

The project is to be realised in a sustainable, resource-efficient and long-term flexible manner. A simple, robust and modular construction method with moderate operating and maintenance costs is envisaged. The building is to allow for later:

- expansion,

- re-use,

- as well as technical retrofitting.
