Description

A system is required for measuring fs-time-resolved ellipsometry, time-resolved photon statistics, and time-resolved photoluminescence. A pump laser is available that provides laser pulses of approximately 200 fs duration with a pulse energy of up to 1 mJ. The following components are required:

1. Generation of ultra-short laser pulses: Using the laser pulses provided by the existing laser (Light Conversion PHAROS 2 SP, see specifications in Table 3.3) (pulse duration approximately 200 fs, pulse energy up to 1 mJ), two types of pulses should be generated:

1) Broadband white-light pulses (WL) in the spectral range 350 nm – 1250 nm (1 eV – 3,5 eV) with a maximum chirp over the required wavelength range of 2 ps

2) Pulses (PUMP) with low bandwidth in the spectral range 250 nm – 1500 nm, where pulses with a bandwidth of at most 50 nm, selected from the usable wavelength range, have compressibility to 50 fs pulse duration or shorter.

This could be achieved, for example, by compressing the laser pulses provided by the existing laser of approximately 200 fs (see Table 3.3) to 35 fs pulse duration or shorter (COMP) with subsequent generation of the pulses WL and PUMP.

2. Delay line: Motorized linear table (DL) with a minimum travel distance of 1 m and a repeatability of 1 μm or better

3. Polarization, focusing, and mirror optics, opto-mechanics (see Figure 3.1):

1) Pump-probe ellipsometry optics (ELLI): optical components and optomechanical holders for implementing automated ellipsometry measurements (motorized holders, linear polarization, and retarder components), as well as management of the pump-probe beam path (deflection mirrors, off-axis parabolic mirrors, collimation lenses, mounting rails) and probe mounting.

2) Cube corner retroreflector (RR) with usable wavelength range 250-1500 nm. Details including sketches and tables in section 3

4. Microscope objective (MO): with a minimum working distance of 10 mm and a numerical aperture of 0.4 or better, usable wavelength range at least 350-1250 nm

5. Detection optics: Monochromator and spectrograph (MC) each with one port for CCD line detector and exit slit

6. CCD line detector (CCD) with readout rate 1 kHz or better
