Germany – Load-bearing structure design services – 2026-05-rv-sb-generalsanierung-thg-sulzbach-tp
Description
The Regionalverband Saarbrücken plans the comprehensive renovation, including reorganization and extension, of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Sulzbach, which was unanimously decided by the Regionalversammlung on 03.07.2025. The planned construction project is scheduled for the site of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Sulzbach. The origins of the school date back to 1877. The former private secondary school was taken over by the municipality of Sulzbach as a public school in 1906. This year is considered the founding date of the school. The current Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium was built in sections between approximately 1966 and 1970 using reinforced concrete frame construction with reinforced concrete ceilings. The entire complex is a two- to four-storey building with a flat roof and is classified as a special building in building class 5. The existing building consists of several interconnected, multi-storey building sections (A - F/G) on different levels in the hilly area. The school houses a rental apartment in the former caretaker's apartment in building section C. Building sections A and D have partial basements. The gross floor area of the existing building is approximately 7,548 m². A feasibility study by the building authority examined the expansion in connection with a comprehensive renovation of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium. The current planning represents an economical and sustainable solution and also creates the possibility of temporarily relocating students during the construction period. The construction project is to be implemented during ongoing school operations, during school holidays, and in individual sections to be determined. This may result in the need for interim measures within the building itself, in adjacent building sections, or in temporary containers, which are required as compensation areas. The possibility of dividing the project into construction phases must be considered. The construction sequence includes the completion of the extension and the science rooms in a 1st construction phase. Subsequently, the rooms in the lower floors can be used for partial relocation of students, and the freed-up areas can be renovated. The associated work must be considered and is part of the overall construction project. To keep the duration of the disruptions and the construction time as short as possible, a proposal for the implementation of the measure must be submitted. Despite the indication of a possible construction site, the design options with room for change and simultaneous careful integration of the new building into the existing environment should not be restricted. New approaches to investigation with efficient design planning are welcomed. The attached space program defines, as far as design-dependent, for the extension as well as for the restructuring measures in the existing building, the future necessary rooms of the entire ensemble of new and old buildings after the extension and their size and room relationships. The arrangement of the rooms is largely freely selectable with particular attention to functional and fire protection aspects. The size specifications are to be checked by the planners for their requirements and correctness. The existing structure and the new extension should be interlocked and function as one school building. The functional areas should be mapped through reorganization in an economical solution. Further details can be found in the project description and the additional documents.
