Germany – Dismantling works – Demontage Fahrtreppen auf der 2. Minusebene an der Haltestelle Berliner Platz

The Berliner Platz underground station is located in the city centre of Essen, right next to the Limbecker Platz shopping centre, and is one of the most important hubs for public transport in addition to Essen Hauptbahnhof. The Berliner Platz underground station is divided into a distribution level (level -1), and two platform levels, level -2 for the U-/City railway lines and level -3 for the tram lines. In addition to the shops, the distribution level also houses many of the Ruhrbahn's operational rooms. The 2-level at Berliner Platz is being upgraded for fire protection. As part of this, the platform is being shortened and new technical rooms are being retrofitted. As a result, 1 staircase to level -2 is being removed and escalators 16 & 17 are being dismantled without replacement.
