Netherlands – Quay wall construction work – Duurzame kadevervanging Uilebomen-Boomsluiterskade

Under the Multi-Year Artworks Programme (MJPK), the quay walls at Uilebomen and Boomsluiterskade must be replaced. The Uilebomen (UIL) and Boomsluiterskade (BSK) are located in the Centrum district, in the Rivierenbuurt-noord neighborhood. The quays are divided into two water compartments and 4 sections; two short sections and two long sections. The short sections are located between bridge 49 at Pletterijkade and bridge 58 - Nieuwe Havenbrug. The long sections are bounded by bridge 58 – Nieuwe Havenbrug and the Zwarteweg and Boomsluiterskade. Additionally, partial sewer works will be carried out, the ground level will be renewed, and the pedestrian bridge 455, at the corner of the Zwarteweg/Boomsluiterskade, will be replaced. For this assignment, the requirement is that all works within the construction barriers (the work area) must be carried out 100% emission-free. From the integral project, the following works are carried out:

1. Replacement of quay wall

The replacement of the quay wall on both sides of the Uilebomen and Boomsluiterskade on both the short and long sections of the streets. This can be globally divided into the following 4 parts:

• Uilebomen short section: 82 meters

• Boomsluiterskade short section: 82 meters

• Uilebomen long section: 206 meters

• Boomsluiterskade long section: 212 meters

2. Sewerage

In the short section of the Boomsluiterskade, the main sewer must be replaced over a length of approx. 90 meters. In addition, the house connections must be replaced on the short section of the Boomsluiterskade and the long and short section of the Uilebomen. At Uilebomen, an additional surface water sewer will also be laid (approx. 95 meters in the short section and approx. 135 meters in the long section)

3. Ground level arrangement

The ground level must be redesigned/renewed over the full length of all four quay wall sections from facade to quay, including the intervening ground level on both sides of bridge 58 – Nieuwe Havenbrug and the ground level on the bridge.

4. Pedestrian bridge – bridge 455

In the long section of the project area (at Zwarteweg/Boomsluiterskade) the wooden pedestrian bridge must be replaced.

5. Wing walls

Repair works must be carried out on the wing walls of bridge 58 – Nieuwe Havenbrug and the wing walls of bridge 49 – Pletterijkade. By repair works is meant: restoration of masonry and/or repair of cracks.
