Description

Renovation of VENTILATOR, MOTOR and DIFFUSOR in the Acoustic Wind Tunnel Braunschweig: 1. Design Study The design study initially involves a comprehensive aerodynamic assessment of the current state in the AWB. The results of this first aerodynamic study will be compared with numerical flow simulations and experimental results obtained by the DLR as part of the planning for the wind tunnel renovation. The scope of this study aims to ensure that a new design is based on an appropriate starting point and to demonstrate the contractor's competence in the field of aerodynamics. The latter can also be fulfilled by elaborated examples from other projects. Secondly, the aerodynamic properties of the new drive system must be developed and properly documented, for example with regard to the average flow field in all velocity components downstream of the first guide vane in the AWB. Both the homogeneity of the flow and the average flow velocity are crucial criteria for the acceptance of the result. Thirdly and lastly, a detailed technical concept for the implementation must be created. The concept should include a complete description of all essential mechanical, electrical and electronic components, their dimensions, weights, electrical power consumption, etc., as well as a concept for the installation and final commissioning. The final acceptance of the design study by the DLR is the criterion for the continuation of the project. In any case, the results of the design study are ultimately the property of the DLR, including all rights for any further internal use. The design work included a proposal for a PC-based drive control system that takes over part of the functionality of the actual system. All necessary information will be provided to the customer by the DLR. 2. Manufacturing The DLR requires a documented load analysis for critical components such as the ventilator and its blades, the diffuser housing or the supporting structures. The manufacture of all components is to be carried out directly by the contractor. If it is necessary to commission a subcontractor to manufacture components specially adapted for use in the AWB, the contractor is obliged to inform the DLR before awarding the subcontract. For all non-standard components, a trial assembly in the contractor's premises is required to minimise the risk of failures and resulting delays during installation at the DLR. The DLR has the right to be present at the installation tests upon request and will be informed of all results. All tests must be adequately documented by photographs, videos and protocols, depending on what is considered the most informative means. 3. Installation and Commissioning The contractor is responsible for installing all components at the DLR using its own personnel or with the support of subcontractors. The installation team(s) must bring all necessary tools and equipment. The installation must be carried out in a specified sequence, which must be agreed between the contractor and the DLR well in advance of the start of the practical work.
