Description

The city of Lage plans to expand the Albert-Schweitzer-Schule through a compact new building connected to the existing structure. The planning task involves a functionally structured school building with teaching, specialist, and full-day areas, as well as supplementary administrative and recreational spaces. The design is based on a preliminary design (Variant C.1) with a layout over three levels (basement, ground, and first floor). The key planning parameters include approximately 1,323 m² gross floor area and around 5,063 m³ gross volume, reflecting a medium level of structural complexity. The spatial concept envisages a mix of classrooms, differentiation areas, specialist rooms, and canteen and full-day areas, with the full-day area accounting for approximately 20% of the total area. Special requirements arise from the functional integration of teaching, care, and communal uses, as well as from the integration into the existing school site. Technically, a modern equipment standard with comprehensive building services, including ventilation systems for all usable areas, is envisaged. For the planning offices, the task is to implement the project economically while taking into account the cost estimates of around 3.9 million EUR net for cost groups 300 to 700, and to ensure a sustainable and approvable overall concept. In addition to the building design, specialist planning (particularly building services and structure) must be closely coordinated. Particular attention must be paid to the interfaces with the existing structure, the functional quality of the learning spaces, and compliance with current energy requirements. The aim is a future-proof, flexibly usable school building with high quality of stay and efficient use of space and resources.
