The Technology Platform for Hydraulic Machines (PTMH) of the EPFL intends to carry out a turnkey modernization of the variable-speed electric drive of the main feed pump of its test bench (unit PF1). The scope includes delivery, installation and commissioning of a new three-phase alternating current motor of approximately 900 kW as well as the associated low-voltage frequency converter to replace the existing direct current drive, including all mechanical and electrical interfaces with the existing system. The equipment is intended for hydraulic power testing in metrological quality (IEC 60193). Key focuses are long-term reliability, availability of customer service, low grid-side harmonic distortion, regenerative capability (four-quadrant operation) and integration into the control and data acquisition system of the platform. Variants of the converter topology are permissible, provided that all functional requirements are met.
