Germany – Construction work for houses – TNW: Investorenwettbewerb Umgestaltung Schillerplatzareal Iserlohn

The Schillerplatz site in Iserlohn is located in the city centre and represents one of the most important development areas within the framework of the municipal renewal strategy. The aim is to sustainably improve the urban quality and the diversity of use in the city centre and to strengthen the function of Schillerplatz as an urban centre. The site covers approximately 12,000 m² and is directly adjacent to the town hall, Stadt-Sparkasse, Stadthotel and pedestrian zone, which at the same time forms the southern boundary of the site. This ensures direct connection to the most important inner-city traffic and stay areas. In preparation for the planned development, essential preparatory measures have already been carried out on the project site, including the demolition of the former Karstadt property and the associated underground car park, as well as the exploration and securing of underground cavities (karstification and ore mining). Directly adjacent to the project site (northern side of the Theodor-Heuss-Ring) is currently the Rathaus I. Demolition of Rathaus I is expected to begin in 2026. Targets, scope and timely implementation for a possible new building at this location are not yet known. The Schillerplatz site and its surroundings thus offer the prerequisites for comprehensive urban development and the project site represents a central building block for the future design and use of Iserlohn's city centre.
