The University Hospital Düsseldorf plans to construct a central waste collection point, which will be built on the site of the current building 18.15. The Central Waste Collection Point (ZAS) consists of a rectangular structure with dimensions of 56 x 56.50 m, which is enclosed on all sides by a perforated metal facade. The structure is divided into an open-top courtyard, around which an L-shaped two-storey insert is arranged. The building will be constructed using reinforced concrete solid construction, with the superstructure of the partially covered courtyard being constructed using steel. Vehicle access will be via large entrance and exit gates, while pedestrian access will be via a staircase core with a hydraulic lift located in the two-storey insert. The building will be constructed over underground canals (a media tunnel and a canal for automated goods transport) and a partially demolished bunker facility. This results in a complex foundation situation using a system of columns, wall-like beams and floor slabs. The building will have a connection to the canal for automated goods transport in the basement and an unloading station on the ground floor. All load-bearing walls will be constructed using reinforced concrete, non-load-bearing interior walls using 24cm aerated concrete, and interior walls in sanitary areas using lightweight construction.
