Description

The City of Jülich intends to develop the existing town hall site and parts of the listed new town hall in a forward-looking manner and, as part of the structural change, to set an architecturally, urban planning and functionally significant impulse. With the "Brainergy Forum", a multifunctional citizen, event and congress centre is to be realised, which meets the requirements of a modern, participatory urban society and promotes the encounter and dialogue between economy and research. The competition aims to find a high-quality design that strengthens the urban planning situation, offers architectural and functional solutions of high quality and guarantees a high degree of flexibility. The aim is to create a place that enables a wide range of uses: from citizens' assemblies to cultural formats to congresses and thus forms a central, identity-creating meeting point for the city. In addition, the competition is intended to produce innovative concepts for sustainability and energy efficiency that support the exemplary claim of the project. The competition thus serves to select a future-proof and sustainable overall concept that serves as the basis for the further planning and implementation of the measure and actively and openly shapes the change of the city.
