The Steinach Sewage Treatment Plant (trickling filter plant) has a final design size of 3,250 population equivalents (PE) and is technically designed for carbon removal in the purification process. According to the order of 9 August 2007, file ref.: 42-6411/1 and 6411/3, last amended by order of 27 September 2011, file ref.: 42-6411/1 and 6411/3, the water permit for the discharge of the wastewater treated at the Steinach Sewage Treatment Plant into the Kinsach and of mixed water from the relief structures, is valid until 31 July 2027.

Currently, the Steinach Sewage Treatment Plant is technically designed for carbon removal in the purification process. The determined mixing ratio in the watercourse results in requirement level 2 for the sewage treatment plant of size class 2 (1,000 – 5,000 PE). Consequently, carbon removal and nitrification will be necessary in the future. The previous purification process can no longer be operated. Since the existing sewage treatment plant cannot be economically upgraded, the municipality of Steinach plans to build a new sewage treatment plant, taking into account the development over the next 20 years. According to the current status, the catchment area of the Steinach Sewage Treatment Plant comprises approx. 2,420 inhabitants connected to the sewage treatment plant. Tourism, hotels, inns and commercial enterprises are taken into account according to the information provided by the municipality. The wastewater quantities for the individual commercial enterprises and large consumers were determined on the basis of the fresh water consumption. Taking into account the current commercial enterprises and future connections of residential areas or commercial units, a final design size for the Steinach Sewage Treatment Plant of 3,900 population equivalents (PE) results.

The subject of the contract are:

- Services of the scope of services for structural design of civil engineering works according to § 43 HOAI in conjunction with Annex 12 No. 12.1 HOAI, performance phase 1 to 9

- Services of the scope of services for specialist planning of structural design according to § 51 HOAI in conjunction with Annex 14 No. 14.1 HOAI, performance phase 1 to 6

- Services of the scope of services for specialist planning of technical equipment according to § 55 HOAI in conjunction with Annex 15 No. 15.1 HOAI, plant groups 1 – 4, 7, 8, performance phase 1 to 9

Additionally, special services will be commissioned.

The following schedule is planned for planning and construction:

- Kick-off meeting September 2026

- Performance phase 1-2 until 03/2027

- Performance phase 3-4 until 10/2027 (early start of construction)

- Performance phase 5-7 until 03/2028

- Start of construction mid-2028

- Completion end 2029
