France – Engineering services – Assistance à la rénovation du contrôle commande des cyclotrons du GANIL

The objective of the service is to assist the control-command team in renovating the Control-Command software of the original installation, and more specifically the Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). The total of 51 HMI represent approximately ~800,000 lines of significant code, the cyclomatic complexity index calculated by GnatPro is between 4 and 25, with an average value of 8. The HMI are exclusively developed with the ADA language, their graphics are based on the services of the MOTIF and XRT libraries. These libraries represent a risk of obsolescence for the upcoming replacement of control room stations, with the risk of encountering hardware and/or software incompatibilities. Moreover, the development workshop, which is almost non-existent, is far from current standards and therefore very penalizing in terms of development speed. The main objective of the renovation is to solve the obsolescence problems by replacing the MOTIF XRT libraries with state-of-the-art graphic technology. GANIL is studying the following solutions: VueJS, pyQt, Gtk-python. Another objective is to improve the maintainability of the software and to facilitate the use of external HR resources in case of a need for punctual reinforcement; for this, particular attention will be paid to the architecture, coding rules, documentation, testability and the skills required for the technology replacing the MOTIF/XRT libraries.
