For the operation of an optical lattice clock, a spectroscopy laser is required to interrogate the atomic transition frequency. For the atoms used (Ytterbium), this must be done at the clock transition of 578 nm. The stability of the optical lattice clock is directly influenced by the spectroscopy laser, for which an ultra-stable resonator is needed.
