UZ Leuven intends to replace its current fleet of patient meal trolleys. This concerns regeneration trolleys and non-technical trolleys suitable for both individually assembled meals and bulk meals to be regenerated or kept cold. Regeneration of hot meals takes place via a heating system that works with circulating hot air to quickly, evenly, and safely bring meals to temperature. The distribution kitchen operates on a cold line and transports these cold meals to the various departments, where the meals are kept cold and/or regenerated. Since these departments wish to divide their meals according to the needs of the patients, 2 different types of trolleys are purchased: trolleys for individual meals and for bulk meals. These trolleys are intended for meal distribution on a cold line via a decoupled kitchen operation. The meals are cooled proportionally in the kitchen, cooled, and transported to the various departments, either individually and/or in bulk. In the departments, the meals are heated in the regeneration trolley via circulating warm air (convection). The departments have a maximum capacity of 30 persons. The operation of the kitchen will not be adapted to the trolleys. The new trolleys must be able to support the current operation of the kitchen without any problems. The quality of the meals must be guaranteed at all times (temperature, structure, etc.). The ease of use for the staff is essential. Therefore, the trolleys must be designed so that users can perform their tasks in as ergonomic a manner as possible. The trolleys must be able to be coupled and towed in sets of 8. The trolleys must be reinforced at the bottom for this purpose. The availability of spare parts and software is of great importance to keep the trolleys in optimal condition. We assume that the necessary accessories, such as trays, can be provided by the supplier. At UZ Leuven, around 4,000 patient meals are distributed daily to various locations and spread over 3 meal times. This concerns a framework agreement for 10 years for the supply, commissioning, and maintenance of the regeneration trolleys and non-technical trolleys.
