You are needed for the treatment of patients with Pompe disease, who have low levels of an enzyme called alpha glucosidase, which helps the body regulate glycogen levels. Glycogen provides the body with energy, but in Pompe disease, glycogen levels may increase too much. The medicine contains a synthetic enzyme (active substance) called alfa-alglucosidase – it can replace the natural enzyme, which is deficient in Pompe disease.
