Description

The German Electron Synchrotron ("DESY") is a research institution with locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen (Brandenburg). DESY is a publicly funded national research centre and a member of the Helmholtz Association in Germany. The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory ("CTAO") is a ground-based observatory for gamma astronomy. With a total of 64 telescopes, distributed across sites in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, CTAO will be the most sensitive instrument ever built for studying high-energy phenomena in the universe. Construction of the observatory has recently begun. DESY is responsible for the development and construction of the Medium-Sized Telescopes ("MST") for CTAO. In a first phase, two Pathfinder telescopes will be erected at the southern observatory site in Chile. In full expansion, the erection of twelve further MST at the aforementioned site in Chile is planned. In addition, DESY plans to set up up to nine MST on the Canary Island of La Palma (Spain). The subject of the tendering procedure is the provision of logistics services for packaging, provision of a total of approximately 20 containers (steel structure), loading, international transport, coordinated delivery, unloading and handover of components of the respective telescope from production and storage locations in Germany and Spain to the Southern CTAO Observatory site in Chile.
