The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Kriminalvården) is legally obliged to provide clients in detention and institutions with the opportunity to practice their religion. The spiritual care within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service involves appointing representatives from various religious communities to the Board for Spiritual Care (NAV) at each detention facility and institution to provide pastoral care, counselling and religious services. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service intends to conclude a contract with a supplier who will provide, coordinate and administer spiritual care at all institutions and detention facilities in the country.
