The Natur- und Kulturpark Elbaue GmbH intends to award, through an open procurement procedure, the development, implementation, commissioning and multi-year operation of a digital museum app for the Jahrtausendturm in the Elbauenpark Magdeburg. The aim of the project is to digitally accompany visitors to the Jahrtausendturm along the entire visitor journey – before, during and after the visit – and at the same time to expand access to the exhibition content for different target groups. The Jahrtausendturm is located at Tessenowstraße 5a, 39114 Magdeburg. The exhibition extends over six levels with approximately 8,030 m² of exhibition space and covers around 6,000 years of human and technological history. Currently, the exhibition comprises 251 text panels, 120 textile representations and 158 exhibits, of which 61 are interactive; WLAN is available throughout the building. The subject of the procurement is the development of a Progressive Web App (PWA) including a Content Management System (CMS) for the editorial and technical management of all content. The application should be usable on the end devices of the visitors without installation, function on both Android and iOS devices and be responsive on fully HTML5-standard-supporting browsers and at least on operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS and Linux. The app should provide both functions for use outside the museum and for use within the museum (differently). These include, in particular, 360-degree panoramas, service information, multilingual content, tours and walks, audio, video, text and image content, QR-code-based exhibit calls, knowledge rallies, social sharing functions, feedback options, easy language and screen reader support. The project pursues a holistic mediation approach. In addition to the on-site dissemination of information, the app is also intended to bridge closing times, create digital access for school classes, families, experts and people with mobility impairments, and enable interaction, participation and follow-up of the visit. One of the functions, for example, tailored to specific target groups, should enable educators to compile an individual rally for their school class before the museum visit. The rally can then be made available to each student via a separately generated code. After the museum visit, the results of the individual students can be evaluated individually. A particular focus is on sustainability, long-term operability and data sovereignty. In addition, GDPR compliance, digital accessibility, changeability of the software during the maintenance phase, traceable technical documentation and safeguarding of further development in the event of disruption or failure of the contractor must be ensured. The briefing is scheduled for December 2026, according to the current service description. Completion is scheduled for mid-2027.
