For a future-proof expansion of its existing natural gas network, terranets bw GmbH (terranets bw) plans the "Spessart-Odenwald-Leitung (SPO)". The planned natural gas transport pipeline, with a total length of approximately 117 kilometers (DN 1000, DP 90 bar), runs through the federal state of Hesse and the Free State of Bavaria. The route largely follows the course of the existing MIDAL (Mitte-Deutschland-Anbindungs-Leitung). In the federal state of Hesse and the Free State of Bavaria, the SPO runs from north to south through the districts of Main-Kinzig, Aschaffenburg, Offenbach, Darmstadt-Dieburg, and Bergstraße. The overall SPO project has been divided into four planning approval sections: - Section Hesse-North (PLA) o from SP 0+000 to approximately SP 35+090, or from the locality of Wirtheim (municipality of Biebergemünd) - locality of Klein-Auheim (city of Hanau) o length approximately 35.1 km - Section Hesse-Middle (PLB) o from approximately SP 35+090 to approximately SP 83+220, or from the locality of Klein-Auheim (city of Hanau) - locality of Herchenrode (municipality of Modautal) o length approximately 48.1 km - Section Hesse-South (PLC) o from SP 83+220 to approximately SP 116+700, or from the locality of Herchenrode (municipality of Modautal) - locality of Lampertheim (city of Lampertheim) o length approximately 33.5 km - Section Bavaria (PLD) o in the Free State of Bavaria, various route sections within Section Hesse-North (PLA) o length approximately 1.5 km The construction of the pipeline can be carried out in several construction sections depending on the permit. The pipeline is to be constructed to be suitable for the transport of up to 100% molecular hydrogen. The planning approval decision is to be available for the Hesse-Middle section (partially) by mid-2026 and in the remaining parts by the beginning of 2027. Early measures (EnWG § 44c) such as tree felling and the establishment of pipe storage areas are to take place as early as 2025. The subject of the tender is the section-wise construction of valve groups including site construction.
