Belgium – Special-purpose mobile containers – Emballages de transport pour matières hautement radioactives (HLLW RECUMO, conteneur vitrifié RECUMO, HAVA/MAVA)

The SCK CEN intends to acquire transport packaging for highly radioactive materials and waste. These packages will be used for both transfers between buildings on the SCK CEN site and for transport on public roads. The contents to be transported include solid and liquid materials. Solid and liquid forms will not be mixed in the same content; they will be the subject of separate contents. The contents require Type B packaging in accordance with the IAEA recommendations for transport on public roads. Specific rules apply to transport within the SCK CEN site (these rules will be attached to the tender documents in the second phase). The contents will be described in detail in the technical purchase specifications, as well as the various buildings in which the packages will be handled, loaded and unloaded. No fissile contents, as defined by the IAEA, are planned within the scope of this contract. The contents are divided into several categories:

• Highly radioactive acidic liquids, with packaging of approximately 1 m³ in volume

• Vitrified containers requiring approximately 6 cm of lead shielding, with packaging featuring a cavity of approximately 45 cm in diameter and 140 cm in height

• Highly radioactive waste conditioned in 200-litre or 400-litre drums

The supply includes:

• Packaging suitable for on-site and public road transport

• For packaging intended for public road transport: Package Design Safety Reports (PDSR) and Type B approval

• Specific accessories for the packaging, such as securing devices for standard road vehicles

• Operational documents: user instructions, maintenance instructions, etc.

• All documents must be provided in English

The delivery deadline for the packaging is 2.5 calendar years from the date of the order.
