The planning task includes the object and specialist planning for the comprehensive refurbishment of the Weiherfeldbrücke in Karlsruhe, which connects the districts of Weiherfeld-Dammerstock and Beiertheim. The subject of the measure is the thorough renovation of the entire bridge structure, including superstructure, carriageway construction, bridge caps, sealing, drainage facilities, and all structural and traffic-related equipment. The measure is necessary because the existing bridge structure must be comprehensively refurbished in the coming years. In parallel, a new traffic organisation of the cross-section is to be carried out. The background is the already high cycle and foot traffic today, as well as the future connection of the Karlsruhe–Ettlingen cycle express route (RS10) south of the bridge, which is expected to result in a further increase in cycle traffic. As part of a variant comparison involving citizens' associations and interest groups, the preferred variant 4 (V4) was developed and subjected to a traffic safety audit. This variant forms the basis for further planning.
