Masonry works for the repair of 2 composite steel-concrete bridges. Bridges K 32 and K 33 are located before Kandersteg and are part of National Road N06 Frutigen – Kandersteg. The N06 is the access road to the village of Kandersteg and to the Lötschberg car ferry. Traffic volume on the two bridges fluctuates greatly and is particularly high in good weather and during the holiday season. From the Frutigen side, there is a steady influx of vehicles, while the influx from the Kandersteg side (car ferry) occurs in surges. The two bridges were built in the 1970s and have significant damage and structural deficiencies. Currently, the use of the bridges is therefore restricted and crossing is only unrestricted for vehicles with a total weight of up to 20 t. Bridge K 32 is 140 m long and spans 4 fields, bridge K 33 is 60 m long and spans two fields. In cross-section, the bridges consist of two supported steel girders with a concrete slab on top. The piers and abutments are designed as reinforced concrete discs and are shallowly founded in the steep slopes of the Kander. The damage and structural deficiencies affect both bridges and both the superstructure and the substructure. Therefore, comprehensive repair and strengthening measures are required.
