Description

The formulation of the Basic Idea for the Strategic Planning of the Olive Grove requires a transition from the logic of "isolated works" to an Urban Metabolism model. The present competition aims to redefine the Olive Grove as a new metropolitan landscape of resilience, public space, production, and habitation, exploring the potential for developing new architectural and urban planning patterns that respond to contemporary environmental, social, and economic challenges. The Olive Grove should be treated as a living organism with a deep stratification, which does not aim to alienate itself from the past (industry-history) but uses it as a raw material to redesign the climate and social resilience of the future, providing an ecosystem of urban coexistence. The competition aims to produce new visions of urban regeneration for the area as well as to develop integrated proposals that combine: architectural design, urban strategy, public space, environmental resilience, and mechanisms of urban transformation, in enhancing the relationship between urban redevelopment, social cohesion, and sustainable development. The competition targets: • the promotion of innovative architectural and urban approaches, • the exploration of the relationship between public space, habitation, and productive landscape, • and the production of proposals that combine:  architectural quality,  environmental strategy,  social sustainability,  and resilience. Integrated proposals are sought that address the Olive Grove not only as an area of redevelopment, but as a field for producing new forms of metropolitan life. The design of this unified approach should be based on basic thematic categories, which will interact with each other and feed into each other. More specifically, the basic principles will be five (5): 1. Green pole and climate resilience, 2. Sport and society, 3. Innovative residential areas, 4. Culture and historical identity, 5. Regulatory and normative framework.
