Description

The municipal council of Donauwörth initiated the development of an innovative, sustainable residential area at Schellenberg, east of the old town, with the creation of the 'Alfred-Delp-Quartier, 1. BA' land-use plan in 2020. The former site of the 'Alfred-Delp-Kaserne', whose military use ended in 2013, is of great importance for the further structural and urban development of Donauwörth. The new residential quarter is to function as a link and hinge between the Parkstadt district and the Donauwörth city centre. The unique landscape location on the hilltop and the terraces with extensive wooded areas are the distinctive features of the 'Alfred-Delp-Quartier', which is to be developed as a 'green quarter' with its own character. The green and park areas to be designed fulfil important functions for the heavy rainfall management in the quarter and for leisure and recreation. In a first construction phase, the following areas will be designed: - the southern landscape park with the extensive retention ponds of the heavy rainfall management and diverse action areas, and - the southernmost part of the 'Grüne Fuge', which serves both heavy rainfall drainage and stay, - the 'Bastion' as a landmark and viewpoint in the north, - the path connection through the Bodendenkmal Sternschanze in the west. The southern landscape park, the southern part of the Grüne Fuge and the Bastion in the north of the Alfred-Delp-Quartier will be part of the Landesgartenschau Donauwörth 2028. Completion by the end of 2027 is therefore mandatory.
