The district heating plant at Geniner Straße, operated by Stadtwerke Lübeck, produces district heating for the Geniner Straße district heating network. The site houses two gas boilers, a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, and a gas expansion plant. The existing CHP plant (1 MWel) is to be remotorised and supplemented with an additional new CHP plant (1 MWel), so that 2 new CHP plants will operate in the heating centre. To increase the share of renewable heat in the total heat output of the Geniner Straße district heating network in the future, the CHP plants to be renewed are to be supplemented with an innovative generation component. Due to the lack of alternative primary heat sources, an air-water heat pump system has been provided as an innovative component. In addition, an electric boiler is to be planned. This results in an innovative combined heat and power (iKWK) system under §8 KWKG, which received an iKWK funding grant in 2025. In addition to these iKWK components, the existing gas boiler structure must be renewed. This currently consists of 2 gas boilers each with a 3 MW line. Furthermore, the electrical connection of a gas expansion plant is to be restructured.
