Germany – Archiving services – Überwachung und ANpassung der E-Paper-Sammlung der DNB

Deutsche NationalbibliothekGermanyPublished on Aug 17, 2026
Deadline passed

Description

The statutory deposit collection of the German National Library (DNB) includes all publications in text, image, and sound that have been published in Germany, in German, as a translation from German, or about Germany since 1913. This also includes the collection, cataloging, and archiving of all daily newspapers published in Germany (see also https://www.dnb.de/sammelauftrag). The DNB offers newspaper publishers the opportunity to fulfill the mandatory deposit of daily newspapers by providing layout-compliant e-paper editions in PDF format for automated collection. All publications delivered to the DNB must fundamentally match the original publication both in content and format. To ensure long-term archiving, they must not be protected by a password and/or copy protection. After the initial configuration of the automated collection processes, the DNB retrieves the e-paper editions from the publisher's servers on a daily basis. It uses the ePaperManager of Outermedia GmbH as the software system. The system has been proven in long-term use and is continuously adapted to the state of the art. By the end of 2025, the e-paper collection comprised 1,169 current newspaper titles, and in 2025, the DNB collected and archived approximately 340,000 daily editions. The quantity of daily newspapers subject to mandatory deposit depends on the developments in the newspaper market and is currently slightly declining.
