Germany – Architectural services for buildings – WB 2151_OK43_Kassel_Bewerbungsphase

Stadt KasselGermanyPublished on May 20, 2026
No deadline given

Description

The City of Kassel aims to revitalise its city centre through non-commercial, low-threshold and identity-creating offers. To this end, a concept for the future use of the ruruHaus at Oberer Königstraße 43 is to be developed. The former department store is currently vacant and stands out due to its central location and its fame. The ruruHaus is to develop into a lively, multifunctional, barrier-free and inclusive campus for education, encounter, culture and youth - as an open space in the middle of the city centre, free from consumption, resilient and identity-creating. In addition to the new city library, youth cultural formats, creative workshops and flexible event spaces will also find a home here. The central use and core content is a modern city library, which is understood as a contemporary facility for basic public services and, in the sense of current library development, clearly goes beyond the classic media lending. The building will be renovated in a resource-saving manner, in harmony with the ensemble protection and, if necessary, supplemented by a targeted, needs-based extension.
