Sweden – Health services – Specialiserad vuxenpsykiatrisk öppenvård (VUP)

The Supplier shall provide planned and acute outpatient services within specialised adult psychiatry, according to the specified requirements for adults, defined as 18 years and older. In relation to child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP), the Supplier shall however apply a flexible age limit based on the individual's care needs. This means that patients who have ongoing contact with BUP shall complete their treatment at BUP after turning 18, according to the care plan, if the Supplier of BUP and the patient together deem it appropriate, considering the nature of the treatment and the future need for psychiatric care. Similarly, the Supplier, if appropriate considering the nature of the treatment and after agreement with BUP, shall provide care to young people who fall ill with severe mental illness of adult nature before the age of 18.
