The City of Essen plans to establish and construct a 6-track comprehensive school and a triple sports hall, two single sports halls and ancillary facilities at Erbslöhstraße in the Altessen-Süd district due to increasing student numbers and increased demand for comprehensive school places in the city of Essen. The building consists of four structural units (A-D) arranged around a central fifth structural unit (E). The outer structural units A-D enclose the central structural unit at the building corners, so that all structural units are structurally connected to each other. The structural units or components A to E serve as school buildings. In addition to the school, component A also houses the triple sports hall plus 2 single sports halls with stands and changing facilities.
