The Schön Klinik Neustadt (SKN) is a teaching hospital of the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (Schön Klinik Neustadt SE & Co. KG, Am Kiebitzberg 10, 23730 Neustadt) and is currently listed in the hospital needs plan of the state of Schleswig-Holstein with 366 acute care beds. In addition to the acute care beds, 160 beds are used to provide rehabilitative care for patients in follow-up treatment. The central emergency care (ZNA) of the SKN, with approx. 22,000 contacts p.a., is the largest unit of its kind in Ostholstein. In the respective inpatient specialties, almost all patients with acute events are treated at the highest quality level. This includes, in particular, the treatment of orthopedic injuries (Regional Trauma Center), the care of cardiological patients with 2 cardiac catheterization laboratories, as well as stroke care with an interregional Stroke Unit (9 beds) and interventional procedures (thrombectomy) in an angiography laboratory as a hybrid OR. The intensive care unit of the Schön Klinik Neustadt with 10 intensive care beds and 8 intermediate care beds (IMC beds) has been operated on the 1st floor, in direct spatial proximity to the OR or recovery room of the OR, for approximately 30 years, i.e. since the hospital was commissioned. Regular maintenance measures for the building areas have been carried out. Nevertheless, after 30 years, the construction concepts implemented at the time no longer meet the current requirements for operating a current intensive care or IMC unit.
