Description

The gymnasium and multi-purpose hall in Erkelenz - district of Lövenich is part of the infrastructure of the formerly independent municipality of Lövenich. The multi-purpose hall is located in the district of Lövenich and initially serves as a gymnasium for school and club sports. In addition, it is available to local clubs as an event hall, and is a public assembly venue as defined by the Special Construction Ordinance (SBauVO NRW). The two halls were originally built in 1974 and expanded in 2025. The building is divided into a two-storey head structure with an entrance, equipment rooms and a changing area, the actual multi-purpose hall with 251 m2, the gymnasium with 316 m2, a single-storey changing and sanitary area, and a single-storey side area with storage, technical and changing and sanitary facilities. The current usable area is 890 m2. Prior to these renovations, the existing building was inspected to assess the necessary renovations and determine renovation costs. It was found that the building is in very poor condition overall. The existing roof covering consists of old, asbestos-contaminated corrugated asbestos cement sheets. It is assumed that for a new and better insulated roof covering, the installation of ceiling panels and a possible photovoltaic system, a static reinforcement of the existing supporting structure made of steel lattice girders will be necessary. In this context, the lightning protection system is to be renewed, including the discharge at the facade. The existing external masonry shows damage to the joints. Therefore, extensive renovation of the load-bearing and stiffening components is necessary before the renovation of the outer shell and the indicated insulation measures. The interior of the building also requires urgent renovation. This initially affects all areas of the gymnasium and multi-purpose hall. Due to various damages to the outer shell, serious damages have occurred in the ceiling and wall areas, which have been partially repaired temporarily. In total, the sports floors in the hall and the floors in the ancillary rooms need to be renewed.
