Description

The city of Jülich, with around 35,000 inhabitants, is a significant medium-sized centre and a central residential and living area in the northern district of Düren. Numerous renowned research and scientific institutions shape the location and give the city international visibility. In addition to its importance as a modern research location, the city has a pronounced historical identity. With a more than 2,000-year history of settlement, Jülich is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Germany and has a correspondingly significant past. Moreover, the city benefits from its location along several historically and touristically relevant routes, including the Via Belgica, the Grünroute, the RurUfer cycle path and the Camino de Santiago, which further enhance the supra-regional importance of the location. As part of the structural change, the Jülich city area is currently undergoing a profound urban transformation. This is also the case in the planning area of the green-blue corridor.
