Germany – Particle accelerators – Power Converters for Solenoids of GHIISI

At GSI, a new ECR ion source named GHIISI is currently being developed, in which the plasma is heated by microwaves using electron cyclotron resonance. Depending on the requirements of the ion beam, plasma heating is performed using microwave frequencies of 18 GHz and/or 14 GHz. Appropriate plasma heating and confinement requires a specific magnetic field configuration, which is composed of the superposition of hexapole and solenoid magnetic fields.
