Germany – Laboratory, optical and precision equipments (excl. glasses) – Computer Tomograph

The LIB currently operates three µ-computer-tomographs at its Bonn site. The LIB scans a variety of organic samples, mainly animals, which are sometimes stained, in liquids, air-dried or otherwise fixed. Almost never are two identical samples or species scanned. Therefore, extreme requirements are placed on the new device in terms of versatility and user-adjustable settings. Two of the existing devices are aging and will soon be decommissioned before their sources completely fail. One of these is a device with a Flatfield Panel, which can scan samples up to 10 cm in diameter and approximately 16 cm in length. Typical applications at the LIB for this device are head scans of snakes, fish or images of entire lizards. The second device features a 4000 x 4000 pixel CCD detector, which enables high-resolution scans of small samples such as insects or heads of small fish (Rice-fish). Both devices are intensively used at the LIB and both size and requirement ranges will be needed again.
