The reason for the procurement procedure is the coordination and consulting services for the planned construction of a research archive under the title "Tor zur Literatur". The existing literature campus of the German Literature Archive on the Schillerhöhe, including the Schiller National Museum, archive building including extension, Literature Museum of Modernity, and Collegiate House, will be supplemented by a new research archive. The new building is to accommodate the areas of research archive and magazines, digitization, user and reading areas, conference and event rooms, exhibition and mediation spaces, as well as office and ancillary rooms. In addition, it is to serve as an open entrance between the city, the literature campus, and the future literature park. The competition procedure was completed with the jury meeting on 11 and 12 March 2026. The basis for further planning is the competition entry awarded 1st prize by the competition winner. The subsequent procurement procedure resulted in the office of Gustav Düsing Architekt from Berlin in cooperation with mahl gebhard konzepte from Munich as the winner. The contracting authority will commission the offices with the further planning services of the building planning according to § 34 HOAI. Further planning services are now required for the further implementation of the construction measure on the basis of the present competition entry or the preliminary design planning.
