The task is the redesign of the open and traffic space complex "Mittelmarkt" in the urban renewal area "Historischer Marktplatz". The aim of the measure is to develop a monument-compliant, climate-friendly, barrier-free and multifunctional square design with high quality of stay. Elements such as integrated greening, sustainable rainwater management and a future-oriented traffic concept should be taken into account and brought into harmony with each other. It is planned to no longer use the road "Am Markt" in the section south of St. Ludgeri for motorised individual traffic in the future, but only for public transport and cycling, and to integrate it into the open space design in this way. The planning area "Mittelmarkt" covers a total area of 16,780 m². Of this, 3,650 m² is classified as a traffic area, the rest of the planning area is an open space.
