VMM intends to proceed with the awarding of multiple contracts for the further development and improvement of the existing groundwater simulator. The groundwater simulator is a publicly available online tool with which users can have the effects of certain interventions in the phreatic aquifer calculated. The groundwater simulator can be used anywhere in Flanders. The use of the groundwater simulator requires very limited knowledge of groundwater or the subsurface but does not require knowledge of groundwater modelling. The contracts consist of one or more tasks as listed below:

- maintaining the regional groundwater flow models of the phreatic aquifer (e.g. for new version of the H3D model, update surface water based on canal map, …).

- support/supervision in the development of the regional models (phreatic and/or confined) in the function of smooth implementation in the groundwater simulator

- integrating the updated models in the groundwater simulator

- conceptualising and testing new functionalities:

* climate change impact

* canal dredging

* flow path calculation

* investigating the advantages and disadvantages of a coupled mother-child model calculation strategy (and parallelisation)

* adding local own K-value or geology

* uncertainty analysis

* ...

- implementing these new functionalities in the groundwater simulator

- building models of the confined aquifers

- integrating these models of the confined aquifers and associated functionalities in the groundwater simulator

- maintaining the groundwater simulator (IT, infrastructure, front-end, back-end, version control).
