Description

The project "Construction of an additional pedestrian bridge at Munich HBF" is listed under the running number 105 in the final report on the Germanytakt timetable (as of September 2022). With the adoption of the Acceleration of Approval Act in November 2023, the Germanytakt measures also became a firm part of the Railway Needs Plan. The aim of the project is to reduce the transfer times at Munich Central Station from 10 to 7 minutes in the main hall and from 13 to 10 minutes between the wing stations by constructing an additional pedestrian crossing. At the same time, the capacity on the heavily frequented platforms, especially at tracks 11 and 26, is to be relieved and the attractiveness of long-distance rail passenger transport (SPFV) and regional rail passenger transport (SPNV) is to be increased. The primary transport objective is to effectively reduce transfer times and optimise the routing within Munich Central Station, with a particular focus on the main hall and the transit between the wing stations. To achieve this, the creation of a direct pedestrian connection is envisaged, which seamlessly links the wing stations with all platforms in the area of tracks 11 to 26. As part of phases 1 and 2, the functional, spatial and technical foundations for the structure are to be developed. Particular importance is attached to the architectural and urban integration of the structure into the existing context of Munich Central Station. Due to the location in the immediate vicinity of the listed train shed, the effects on existing visual relationships and the historically shaped appearance must be carefully examined. The aim is to develop a technically, constructively and operationally feasible solution. The design development is subsequent and must respectfully integrate into the ensemble in terms of scale, transparency and material choice. As part of the planning content, the transfer variant, which emerged from the feasibility study, is to be further developed in terms of dimensioning, route location, structural design and technical and operational feasibility. Additionally, similar variants are to be examined and systematically evaluated in parallel with the planning. The planning supervision and evaluation is to be carried out in close coordination with the Federal Railway Authority (EBA). The aim is to derive and determine the preferred variant for the further planning phases in a well-founded manner.
