Within the framework of the implementation of a new district heating network in the Municipality of Lugano, the construction of the Gemmo district heating plant is planned, equipped with heat pumps intended to cover approximately 80% of the thermal demand of the network. The thermal source of the heat pumps consists of the potable water tanks adjacent to the plant. Since it is not possible to use potable water directly as the heat pump feed fluid, heat transfer occurs through an intermediate circuit that uses CO2 as the heat transfer fluid on the evaporator side.
