Germany – Construction work for aircraft-manoeuvring surfaces – AKR Sanierung Teil 1 – Tiefbau- und Elektroarbeiten
Description
The Cologne Bonn Airport (FKB) plans to renovate approximately 70,000 m2 of aircraft operating areas in various sections of runway A north and south of the crosswind runway (RWY 06/24), as well as the adjacent taxiways E and A3. The older concrete aircraft operating areas exhibit damage attributable to alkali-silica reaction (ASR). Based on the damage patterns, FKB has determined renovation sections to renew the pavement of the existing aircraft operating areas. The construction project "ASR Renovation Part 1" encompasses the services in the first renovation section. The implementation of the construction project "ASR Renovation Part 1" is to take place in several sections between April 2027 and July 2029. The construction project includes six areas, which are summarized in the bill of quantities of the "Civil Engineering and Electrical Works" in three sections, as described in the following table "Construction Areas." In 2026, the tendering and award procedure for the measure will be carried out. The runway sections located in the project area will be fully usable for all aircraft up to Code Letter E and restricted for Code Letter F, with a runway width of at least 23 m, as well as a runway shoulder on both sides with a total width of the runway with shoulder of 38 m, in accordance with the requirements of the EASA. According to the order of the MUNV dated 08.02.2023, this layout, concerning the width of the runway shoulder, is also approved for the aircraft of Code Letter F (B747-8F and An-124) commonly used at Cologne/Bonn Airport. The runway shoulder, if existing, is sealed in asphalt construction and will be produced as a grass shoulder with grid pavers for the locally required widenings. The runway sections will be equipped with runway centerline lighting, runway edge lighting, and illuminated signage for CAT II/III operation, each in LED technology. The new construction of the runway surface is planned to be sectionally different in concrete and asphalt construction according to the result of a variant study as part of the preliminary planning. The underground infrastructure will be largely preserved. Within the scope of the services of the "Civil Engineering and Electrical Works," the construction services of the external facilities (runway surfaces) are to be realized.
