Swetrial has opened calls for grants in 2026 to strengthen Sweden's ability and capacity to attract and conduct more clinical trials. The calls cover funding for clinical trial networks, early-stage clinical trial networks, and national initiatives that contribute to enhanced collaboration, developed methodologies, increased implementation capacity, and long-term sustainable structures for clinical trials. The 2026 call for grants covers approximately 45 million SEK. The scope, breadth, and strategic significance of the call mean that Swetrials' office needs to ensure a cohesive and structured management of the grant portfolio that will need to be established. The networks, projects, and measures awarded grants are expected to vary in focus, maturity, geographical spread, implementation form, and dependencies on other actors within the clinical trials system. This creates a need for a common model for programme management, with clear forms of planning, prioritisation, follow-up, risk management, reporting, feedback, and coordination between different initiatives. Swetrials' office has a central role in keeping the work together, supporting Swetrials' board, and ensuring that the call's intentions are implemented in a purposeful manner. The forthcoming grant portfolio is therefore assessed to require special expertise in programme management, portfolio management, project formation, and strategic implementation support in complex collaborative environments. This includes establishing purposeful governance structures, creating an overview of dependencies and risks, supporting prioritisation between different initiatives, and ensuring that projects and measures are followed up in a way that enables learning, steering, and value creation at the national level.
