Description

To achieve climate positivity, MVV is consistently pursuing its strategy to utilise renewable energies. The planned construction of the district heating booster (FWN) represents a central step in the transformation of Mannheim's district heating supply. Against the background of the further short- to medium-term decommissioning of the coal-fired existing power plant blocks of Grosskraftwerk Mannheim AG (GKM), the boosting of district heating is an indispensable measure to ensure long-term supply security and the required temperature requirements in the district heating network. With the FWN, not only is a reliable heat supply guaranteed, but also a significant contribution is made to the decarbonisation of district heating. MVV Grüne Wärme GmbH plans to construct and operate a district heating booster at the site of Grosskraftwerk Mannheim AG (GKM) in Mannheim-Neckarau. The district heating booster will essentially consist of an electrode boiler with a capacity of 30 MW. In addition to its primary task of ensuring the boosting of district heating, the electrode boiler will also be used to provide secondary control power.
