As part of the Integrated Urban Development Concept "Perspektiven Zentrum Vohwinkel", the landscape planning redesign of central city squares in the Vohwinkeler Centre is being sought. The aim of the competition is to develop a coherent overall concept that further develops the public spaces to be climate-resilient, functionally efficient and high-quality in design. The competition area comprises the Stationsgarten and the Lienhardplatz as realization parts, as well as the Bahnstraße as a connecting urban space in the idea part. The sub-areas are to be considered both in their respective independence and in their spatial context and developed as a coherent urban spatial structure. The central squares take on important functions as meeting places, market and event areas, as well as arrival points in the context of the BUGA 2031. In their current form, they are characterized by high traffic loads, functional overlaps and low landscape planning quality. The competition must show how these different requirements can be spatially ordered and integrated in a high-quality manner. For the realization part, concrete design and implementation approaches are expected that significantly improve the quality of stay and use and at the same time form a climate-adapted, sustainable open space structure. Both the existing traffic conditions and an economically appropriate and section-by-section feasible implementation must be taken into account. In the idea part, it must be shown how the Bahnstraße can be functionally and design-qualified as a connecting urban element and integrated into the overall concept. The aim is to create a coherent spatial link between the station, the centre and the adjacent development areas. An overarching landscape planning concept is expected, which gives the public spaces of the Vohwinkeler Centre a clear identity and strengthens them in the long term as coherent, future-proof urban spaces.
