The German Museum on the Munich Museum Island intends to vacate the library building, with a usable area of approximately 29,200 m², including staff and usage, by the end of 2029 to avoid a prohibition of use by the authorities due to static and fire protection deficiencies. Immediate measures are currently being implemented in this regard. At a later date, the building is to be comprehensively renovated. For the duration of the extensive construction work, the complete relocation from the library building on the Museum Island and the rental of one or more suitable interim premises, preferably in the Munich urban area, is necessary. The building is home to a total of approximately 500 employees and houses, among other things, the library with 3 reading rooms and the book magazine, the archive including magazine areas, as well as associated office, storage and workshop areas. The project is divided into three phases.
