Germany – Construction work for steel bridges – Überbau Stahlbrücke Unterführung Steilshooper Straße D005_Projekt Brücken Barmbek

The underpasses Steilshooper Straße, Bwk D (005) are located in the Barmbek district, Barmbek-Nord borough, of Hamburg and are part of the section of the U-Bahn line U3 between the stops Habichtstraße (HA) and Barmbek (BA). The bridge structure to be renewed, Unterführung Steilshooper Straße, D (005), was constructed in 1918 as a two-track riveted trough construction with plate girders as the roadway with span lengths of approx. 4.59-14.95-4.59 m. Service walkways are mounted on both sides of the superstructure. The bridge, including service walkways, has a width of approx. 8.30 m. The existing superstructure consists of a 3-span system with hinge joints and pendulum supports. The following measures are to be carried out in essence:

- Demolition, removal and disposal of the existing superstructure and pendulum supports via Habichtstraße, Ring 2.

- Production, delivery and installation of the new two-track steel superstructure with service walkways incl. corrosion protection, bridge bearings and under-ballast mats

- Steel removal of the existing superstructures

- Removal and disposal of the trough sealing

The contract involves extensive and demanding steel construction and corrosion protection work with partly hazardous old substances and high requirements for the quality of execution. The measure is to be implemented in a 30-week operational interruption. This sub-project is part of the overall project complex Brücken Barmbek 2027. The work on site is to take place on the following days:

Mo. 03.05.2027 – Fr. 14.05.2027 - Excavation of superstructure and demolition of pendulum supports D (005), Steilshooper Straße (from the north)

- Cutting the superstructure into transportable pieces and removal

Mi. 22.09.2027 – Do. 30.09.2027 - Installation of the new superstructure D (005) by means of SPMT, Steilshooper Str. (from the north)

The specified periods include the setup and dismantling of the lifting equipment. Work is taking place in parallel on the bridge abutments. These works will be awarded in a separate contract. Coordination with this third contractor is required for the demolition and installation work on site.
