Switzerland – Works of art – Kunst und Bau, Aussenraum | FORUM UZH | Neubau

The Building Department of the Canton of Zurich is organising, on behalf of the University of Zurich (UZH), two design contests in a selective procedure for the artistic design of the new FORUM UZH building. The present design programme concerns the outdoor area. The client is the University of Zurich, which will also be the main user of the building. The UZH has commissioned the Building Department of the Canton of Zurich (HBA) with the overall project management for SIA phases 2 to 5. The lead designer is the Herzog & de Meuron Forum AG. The design contest for the FORUM UZH aims to find an artistic intervention in the outdoor area that engages in a stimulating way with the architecture, the surrounding urban space, and the function of the new building, thereby bringing architecture and art together into a coherent concept. The evaluation committee will assess the submitted projects in terms of their engagement with the task, their response to the location, their artistic impact, and their relationship to architecture and landscape. The artistic proposals should have an independent and strong visual language. Both static, permanent works and performative, time-based works are welcome—the latter, provided a coherent concept for their realisation and documentation is demonstrated. The long-term operational and maintenance costs will also be taken into account in the evaluation.
