The Ganztagsförderungsgesetz (GaFöG) will come into force on 01.08.2026 with the start of the 2026/27 school year. The legal basis in the legal system can be found in the Eighth Book of the Social Code (SGB VIII) in § 24 (4). The new § 24 (4) of the SGB VIII defines a support and care entitlement of up to 8 hours daily on weekdays (here: Monday to Friday) during school and holiday periods. The introduction will be phased in from the first school year and is to be extended to all four grades of primary school by 2029/30.
